Mali has a fairly large population for the land

mass.  Most of the population lives in the southern

part of the country.  The area we have been assigned

to study is in northern Mali and therefore is sparcely

populated.  Bamana(aka Bambara) is the main language

spoken throughout the country while the tribe we are

looking at speak an indigenious languge of Bobo,

commonly known as Bobo or Mande.  This particular

tribe is very into agriculture but in the sense of

restoring balance nature which man inherently

destroys.

The tribe members will also interact with the

Bamana, Senufo, Lobi, and Bwa tribes but other than

these tribes the Bobo generally keep to

themselves.  The village we are researching is called

Maourolo, a village of approximately 227, within this

village the people are educated to the level of a gr 9

child at the highest. Although Mali is the largest country within western Africa it is the 19th largest population in Africa.

As seen in the above photograph, Mali is bordered by Mauritania, Niger, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, and Algeria.

From this it is obvious that there are many countries that are smaller within the continent of Africa. The area of Mali that the Bobo

live in very sparcely populated and this aids in the closeness of the community.  Mali's only ground water source is the Niger river. It

is in a desert and therefore experiences very harsh weather conditions. These are basic facts about Mali.
